The Vine and the Branch
by Victoria Zamora
Good morning and happy Sabbath. I hope everybody is doing well today. Today’s story is found in John 15, about one of Jesus’s many amazing stories about the vine and the branch.
Now, what I found really interesting about Jesus, and when he told his parables is he had a way of understanding his followers, and knowing how they would listen and understand to what he was saying. One prime example of this is the parable about the vine and the branches. Now Jesus knew the people understood what it took to plant a vine and to bear fruit. He knew that they knew that certain vines don’t grow under certain conditions, and that certain branches don’t produce fruit under certain conditions. So because of this, he went on to tell the parable about the vine and the branches to express not only God’s love, but his love for us.
Now, in the parable, Jesus compares God to the gardener, the gardener who looks after the vine, make sure it’s watered, make sure it has good soil to grow in, so the vine can grow big and strong. Now the vine connects all the branches, and through the vines love, all the branches grow and grow, and eventually there will bear fruit. Now Jesus told us this parable to show the love of God and himself, as it says in John 15, 9 through 11, as the father who has loved me, so I have loved you now remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love. Just as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and remain in his love. I’ve told you this so that my joy may be your joy and that your joy may be complete. So through all this, we see the care and the love and the strength that Jesus has for us, and that God has for Jesus and why you sent his time down here to teach us so many valuable lessons. So I hope you guys see how much Jesus and the world around you loves you. And I hope you guys have a happy Sabbath.
