Serving Others
by Sara Rivas

Hi Downey church, friends and family, I hope you are all doing well. And you’ve enjoyed your Read Across America this week. I know, it’s been a lot of fun for some of our students here. So I am really happy to be able to share the kid story with you. Let’s get started.

Alright, so this week’s story is called Serving Others. And this week, I had an opportunity to serve others. Ad I did it to do well, when I was asked to serve others. And I’ll share more about that in a second.

So someone that isn’t very nice to my family asked for help monetary help. And I really felt like I had all the right reasons to not help this person. And my heart was really torn. I mean, I had asked my mom to pray for me, and my sister, and my husband, and I had to pray about it. My heart was really hardened, when I was asked for help, or to help, and God came through. So I was reading my YouVersion Bible app. And guess what it talked about? Serving others. Yep. Then we decided to take a movie night and we watch something on Pure Flix. And guess what it talked about? Serving others without judging them. Then the kids watched church at home to Saddleback kids on YouTube. And guess what they talked about how Jesus came to lead by example. And guess what he served. Lord Jesus, you love me, you love me a lot, and I don’t deserve it.

You know what, he really nailed it into me. I need to serve. And you know what I found this verse, Proverbs three, five to six. And it says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, do not depend on your own understanding. My view is, you can get rid of some things, you’ll have a lot of talent. There’s plenty that you have that you can do to help yourself. You don’t need my help. And then the verse continues, and it says, Seek His will. And all you do. And he will show you which path to take. And clearly I know, Jesus came to this earth, and he served others. He healed them. He brought them he took his people out of Egypt, he safely helped them cross the river. He loves us, and He wants the best for us. And he wants he calls us to serve with a heavy heart. And after lots of prayer, and Jesus beating on me, through everything that I saw, and did during the week, I decided to go and I read this verse. And it says, but when you give to the needy, do not let your right or your left hand know what your right hand is doing. So that you’re given may be in secret, then your Father who sees what it’s done is secret will reward you.

And you know what? After I gave, I got a thank you note. It filled my heart. And it made me so happy. And you know what? God knows. He does. He knows what’s best for us, and serving others. It’s really good for your soul. It was good for mine. So this week, I want to challenge you. I want to challenge you to do something to serve someone else every day. And I don’t know what your bedtime routine looks like. But I’m guessing that there’s probably maybe drinking a multivitamin or brushing your teeth. And when you’re doing that, take a moment and think What did I do to serve others? With a kind to my friend did I help tie his shoelaces? When I heard that someone said they were extra hungry today? Did I share some of my lunch? When I heard my teacher said oh, this is a really hard day. Today step it up have to be an extra good student, to remind others to be kind to her. What are we doing, to serve? Let’s serve. Because it’s a gift. It’s a gift that God has given us. And it’s a gift that has a blessing, and says God will reward us for what we do for him. That’s my challenge for you. I know you can do it. I love you all. Let’s go ahead and stop and pray to Jesus.

Thank you so much for your great love and for your mercy and for your kindness that’s just never ending. Thank you, Lord Jesus, because you love us and you speak to us all the time. Thank you for allowing us to listen and and to hear Your word and for giving us an excellent model when you came to this earth, and you lived and you served and help us to serve to thank you Lord Jesus for the rain and the hail that you sent this week. That was so cool. Thank you for always guiding us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Amen.

Bye
