Be a Sponge and Soak Up God’s Word
by Ethan Morales-Vierna
Morning boys and girls, happy Sabbath. Hope you guys are having a fantastic beginning to your Sabbath. Thank you guys for coming to church.
And of course, it’s children’s story time, so we’ll jump right in to our Bible. Today, we’re gonna be taking a look at Psalms 119 verse 11, where it says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
So today, for that illustration, boys and girls, we’re gonna be putting the Bible over there first, and we’re gonna be using these two bowls. This sponge, little smiley face, is gonna represent us. This is us normally when we don’t spend time with God, when we don’t pray. If I try squeezing it, you can see it’s pretty bone dry, and it takes a while to kind of get back into form, but there’s nothing, nothing coming out. And that happens when we don’t spend time with God, we don’t pray, when we don’t read our Bible, when we don’t meditate.
So in order to get soaked up, in order to kind of absorb God, we need to spend time with God. So that’s what we’ll do here. So we’re spending time with God, we’re praying, reading our Bible, things like that. And we’ll see when we soaked up enough, we’ll be able to come here and overflow. So we’re gonna be spending so much time with God that we’re just gonna naturally start being more patient, more kind, more loving. And again, we’re doing that by spending time with Him, by getting to know Him. You can see that, all that wire.
And so boys and girls, as you spend time with God, it’s hard. It’s hard sometimes. We’re human. We don’t always want to spend time with God and that’s completely fine. The important thing is though, just like any good relationship, to chug forward. We do it because He loved us first. And that’s the important thing. And once we start doing that, we will naturally start to exemplify Him and show Him to other people who might not know Him and that might open the door. So remember boys and girls, spend time with God, read your Bible, go to church, do whatever you gotta do to get soaked up in God.
All right, let’s pray. Dear family and father, Lord, thank you God for another day of life. Thank you for allowing us all to come to church, Lord, and to worship you. Right now, Lord, I ask that you be with these children. May you guide and protect them. Bless their families as well. May you continue to point their families towards you, Lord, so that we may all exemplify you in everything we do, Lord. Please forgive us of our sins and we thank you once again for giving us another day of life. We love you and we thank you and ask all these things in your name, amen.
All right, boys and girls, we’ll see you next time.
