Planting a Seed
by Lilia Hernandez
Good morning, boys and girls, and happy Sabbath. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and you took some time to say thank you to the Lord for all the blessings he has given you.
For today’s children’s story, I have a book called The Carrot Seed. And this is written by Ruth Cross. Let me read it to you. And in this book, I believe we’re gonna be able to see how this little boy had faith and perseverance.
The Carrot Seed.
A little boy planted a carrot seed.
His mother said, I’m afraid it won’t come up.
His father said, I’m afraid it won’t come up.
His big brother said, it won’t come up.
But the little boy believed, and every day the little boy pulled up the weeds around the seed and sprinkled the ground with water.
He had faith that someday it would sprout if he would take care of it, which he did.
He watered it every day. But nothing came up.
The next day he went back because he believed that one day it would sprout, but nothing came up.
And everyone kept saying, it won’t come up. But the little boy had faith.
And so he still pulled up the weeds around it every day and sprinkled the ground with water.
He said, I’m not giving up. I believe it will sprout.
And then one day it began to sprout. A carrot stem grew. Look at that. Whoa, great big carrot stem. Just as a little boy had known it would.
And he got this great big carrot.
So you might be thinking, what does this story have to do with me? Well, boys and girls, Romans 12, three says that God has given each one of us a measure of faith, just like that little teeny tiny seed that the little boy planted. God has given you a little tiny seed of faith and it is your job to take care of it and water it.
And you might ask yourself, how do I do that? It’s very simple, boys and girls. Look, let me read. The living water, just like the little boy sprinkled water, this is the living water for your heart. And Matthew 17, 20 says, Jesus said, Truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say this to the mountain, move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.
So you see, boys and girls, all you have to do to this teeny tiny seed is be like the little boy, believe, and feed it every day with the living water, which is our Bible. And then. That little teeny tiny seed, just like it did with our story. The little teeny tiny seed began to sprout and one day it grew big and it produced a great big beautiful carrot. And you know, boys and girls, your heart can do the same. If you take care of it and you feed it with the daily word, then your heart, that little seed in your heart will grow. and it will produce some awesome and amazing fruits. We have the gifts of fruits that the Bible says that we can grow in our hearts. And so boys and girls, continue to sprinkle some water in the seed, and then one day your heart will be big like this, and it will be filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. So boys and girls, every single day, remember to sprinkle your heart with the living water and your heart will grow that seed and you will have all the gifts, the fruits of the gifts that God is telling us that you can have in your heart.
So let us pray. Dear heavenly father, we thank you for the story about this little boy who had faith and perseverance. I ask Father God that you do the same with the boys and girls in that little tiny seed of faith that you have planted in their hearts. May they fill it with the living water with your word and may they be blessed with it with the fruits that you have for them Lord, the gifts of the fruit. And help us all Lord to shine your light. Father God bless them and take care of them. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
Boys and girls, we’ll see you next time. Have a great week, bye bye.
